We split the evening

posted Thursday, 12 June 2008

Double header. Lost first game 11-4, won the 2nd 11-2. So in the end we had the better night. Elder got 5 hits tonight, so she is consistently hitting 2-3 times a game. She doesn't always make it to base, but on average she gets there 50% of the time. Tonight she was on 3 times. The weather wasn't too bad. The early game was torture. So I had to run Younger to get some shorts that weren't causing her problems, 2 water bottle fans, and me some cooler flip-flops. I had on shoes that were comfy, but not too cool. We had enough luggage to keep us going for a few days it seemed. Cooler for drinks, cooler of cold rags for the heat, chairs, a bag of activities for Younger, umbrella to shield the sun from our faces, knitting bag, etc.

Knitting? At a summer softball game? Yes. It cooled down enough during the 2nd game for me to knit 3 rows on Icarus. That is what it will take for me to finish this shawl on time. I have charted the remaining st count and determined how many sts I need each day to get it done. I am anal that way. 652 sts per day. Now, I will not stop in the middle of a row, so I have estimated how many rows I need, adjusting for the fact that the st count increases with each row. From now until June 30th I must do 3 rows per day. Then until August 6th I need to do 2 rows, and then until August end I can do 1 row. I need the shawl blocked and delivered by Sept 12th. The wedding is the 13th. If I plan to have it done 2 weeks ahead that will give me leeway in case I can't work on it everyday. And some days I can do more. If it isn't too hot in the morning I will work on it while waiting at Younger's soccer camp. I have 49,746 sts remaining. I can't stand to think of it!

Wish I had some lovely knitting photos to show, but Icarus is just a boring blob of silk yarn. As You Like It can be photographed for the small progress and to show the color, but I have no energy to get the camera and do a photo shoot. And it's 11:30 here, so no good lighting. I will just leave you with the skin change. I needed something different, but this is all I could come up with.

Remember, June 14th is Flag Day. But more important it's my SIL's birthday. But even more important, it's KIP Day. Knit In Public. If anyone has seen a Ron White comedy routine you will know just how to say that last word. Strong accent on BOTH syllables, strong emphasis on the P. We are wondering if we should also be Drunk In PUBLIC. But then, we don't want to risk being named Tater Salad. It would be real easy to be drink since Margaritas On The Move just moved in 2 doors down from the shop! Wonder if they will think 2 doors down is enough "movement" to justify.

Hey, go out and have a wonderful Friday. We are celebrating a friend's 40th at a favorite local spot. At least this time it won't be as chilly as it was the last time. No, this time it will be HOT! It was only about a month ago that we were there and it was a very cold night. Not gonna happen this time.
