Actually we drove, just had to avoid the water. My teaching gig in Franklin, IN * was plagued by a severe thunderstorm that raged for the entire morning, finally lightening up when I was done. Do you know how hard it is to teach when the rain on the pole barn roof and the thunder claps are making so much noise? And the rain kept all but one of the students away. At least I didn't have to yell to be heard by her. The flooding was aided by a dam breach.
If the class time had been the afternoon session I would have driven up that morning. And subsequently, not have gone once I heard the conditions of the county it was in. I had a little trouble getting in to the city, and with my sister's help, was able to get back out. She was home watching the news for road closures.
While taking breaks from teaching, letting Bonnie knit in peace, I went shopping. Finally got to see Creatively Dyed in person. I will show the purchase at her booth tomorrow. It was the only one I made. Once my class was done I hightailed it out of there before I got stranded. Had to stop and buy shoes since my sandals were drenched 3 or 4 times while getting from building to building.
And stranded we were. All roads leading south were closed. Major interstates, minor highways, and back roads. So we spent another evening in Indy. Went to see Indiana Jones 4 and grabbed a bite before hunkering down. By 9:00 pm I was wiped out. You don't realize how stressful it is trying to drive your way around flooded streets. The road I took out of Franklin was covered in 4 different places. At least the Dia is higher up than my van.
We are now home and getting ready to go watch Elder play a double header. Poor kids. 92 degree heat and no relief. I am packing a cooler of cool water and wash rags for cooling off. And I will sit and be bored since I will not likely take any knitting. My hands would sweat all over the knitting so bad I would drench it.
Take time to say some words of prayer for those affected by the flooding. I can't imagine the things you lose to water damage. Photos being the one I would hate to lose the most. At least yarn can be washed to restore.
* I drove by this location on my way into Franklin at 8:00 am. Not sure what time it was when this photo was taken, but it was likely after noon since the sky is lighter. We saw no light the entire morning.
