Little Rant Here

posted Sunday, 4 May 2008

I am ready to take all realtors by the shoulders and shake them. Our realtor and a realtor friend of Hubster's have both taken issue with our living room wall color. It's Chinese Red. They keep telling us that will be an "issue" when trying to sell the house. You know, that old saw, only neutrals sell? Then explain to me why 7 or 8 homes in my subdivision, that are up for sale, have either a red wall in one of their rooms, or a different "dark" shade? If people don't like color, why do they paint color when in possession of a house?

I know, you're going to say, most don't want that color. Seems my neighborhood trumps that theory. I have seen too many other houses with red walls. Hubster says the Realtor's talk that way because they are conditioned to tell the home owner to change things, to give realtors an easier time to sell the property. They are all about quick turn around. We aren't worried about quick. We do not have to sell, we do not have to give on our price, we are only looking for that one person who loves color and style.

I think Realtors are living in the past. Of all of the younger generation I know, very few are leaving their rooms neutral. They are bolder with color than their parents. I grew up with white walls, likely you did too. Every home Hubster and I have owned, has had colors on the walls. As will every house in our future. The next house will be no less colorful, but instead of 6 different colors we will have only 3 or 4.

Hubster's friend was advising we really need to do something about that red room. Forget it! I am not changing anything about the house I love. Who knows what the future owner wants it to be anyway. I wish people would buy a house based on it's bones. Cosmetics are easy to change. Structure isn't. We know the one thing that will draw people in, is the sitting room. It's what sold us on the house plan in the first place. I really wish there was someway to incorporate this into our new plans, but no way. At least my new house will have a room all for me, it's just as far from my bedroom as possible! But that's OK, all I need is a place for my knitting couch and TV. And a desk for my laptop and some end tables. And a coffee table and come comfy chairs. And a huge ottoman and a, a, a,........ I know, a huge storage chest/armoire for my stash!

Rant off. Now for the beauties. I was off to knit with friends yesterday and we had a blast! I was able to take some handpaints we just got in at the shop. I already bought my fav colorway! 2 skeins destined to become a shawl of some sort. The color is much deeper in true life, just wanted to show your the highlights in it. 437 yards of fingering weight. $17.50 per skein. And I remember balking at spending $12.00 for that much yarn! Times have changed, or desire has taken over?

While visiting at my friend's I knit on the secretary's clogs. I didn't want to wait until school was almost out to get them to her, and I had to wait for the 4th skein of Koigu, should be here Tuesday and I can finish Swallowtail! I am ready to add the 2nd sole to the first pair. When she asked for red or gray or tan, I don't think she realized I would do red and gray together! I just hope we can get these felted enough to fit! She is so tiny. Don't you hate people like that?

OK, I am out of stuff. Have a great week! Mine will be busy some nights, and not on the others. At least there will be down times to recoup my energy! Hey Lisa, does Bailey want to go watch a soccer game Tuesday night?
