The year is Marching on

posted Thursday, 1 March 2007
Can it really be March already? What happened to Jan and Feb? Fallen by the wayside. So what can March hope to bring? First I must dispense with Feb.

Feb update for Craft Challenge. I pulled out Celtic Dreams and it is back on track gangbusters! I am 1/3rd of the way through the first part of the back. Just 36 more rows until I can join the front and back and say "You spin me right round, baby, right round...." So, #1 is being accomplished. #2 Shop my stash. I sucked at this one. New yarn purchases 10. Old stash purchases 1. A difference of +9 added with the -5 from last month = +4 for the year. Must finish Celtic fast so the balance will tip back to the - side. #3 Baby knitting. Still chugging away on baby sweater #1. Still have #2 and #3 to go. Oh, and a close friend is now due in Oct. I can't let the 3rd baby not have a hand knit sweater since the other 2 got them. You may be able to do that, but I just can't. #4 Deadlines? Already set up one and knocked it out. The capelet was made for a birthday in the early days of Feb. But currently I just need to get a Moebius done by April. No problem, except it's 320 sts in Moss St each round!! So far I am breaking even with this challenge.

UFO Challenge. I still haven't gotten back to the Perfect Pie Shawl. But I have been focusing on Celtic, so I am still in the game. But I need to get something else back on the rotation to even come close to finishing the 13 items listed. Plus all the new things I keep starting! So, again, breaking even on this one too. At least I have been pulling things out and working on them, so that's good.

But onto March, since it is here and it roared in like a Lion for us. I am just hoping it goes quietly for the rest of the month. We had our 2nd banger storm of the year. Yes, we had a Feb thunderstorm. That tells me right there that Spring is coming soon. And as we say in our parts "Don't like the weather? Give it a few minutes, it will change". We had a snow storm, temps in the single digits, a thunderstorm, and temps in the high 50's all in one month. We went from the 30's last week to the near 60's this week. But I am sure we are headed back to the lows, probably in April.

So, on the agenda for March: Continue with Celtic Dreams. Get the baby sweater done! From the list of UFOs pull out the felted mitten and get #2 done. Since I have Celtic going, I don't want to pull out another sweater to work on. Get the Moebius done. Start and finish, yeah right, a pie wedge shawl-a different pie wedge shawl-for a shop sample. Shirley that's doable? Sorry, I won't call you Shirley anymore.

In family life I need to wish my Guy a very Happy Birthday tomorrow!! And you can too if you want. Last night I gave him his present. Not that kind! Get your minds out of the gutter. I gave him his Wireless Router*. He was soooo surprised and pleased. And then I told him that in honor of his birthday I was going to buy myself a sweater's worth of yarn and knit myself a sweater. He said fine, as long as it wasn't more than $40.00. You can tell he hasn't bought yarn recently. Wait, he's never bought yarn! Well, he's never actually walked into a shop and picked it out himself. He's paid for yarn dozens of times.

So, what are your plans for March? Do you see yourself tackling a new technique? Trying something new. Branching out in your knitting? Or do you want the familiar, the tried and true? Whatever you do, just beware the Ides of March, the 15th. Well, I guess that's only if you are an Emp/orer/ress and hated by your political enemies. Hey, how about my new title The Empress of Entrelac?

Blessings: A warm bed. And a warm body to snuggle with. It's all good.

* I actually gave him the empty box of the one he just bought Sunday. Hey, I got a wireless router for my Valentine's gift last year. A year before I HAD a wireless device! It's not my fault he went out and bought a new one, instead of getting the old one repaired under warranty!
