We have 2 to celebrate this weekend. My cousin's have 2 lovely daughters who will be getting a year older this month. Both were preemies, but you would never know it to see them now. As a close "knit" family we all take part in the welcoming of newborns into the world. When the cousin's Elder was born, I think there were about 20 of us in the hallway of the neo-natal unit, looking through the windows. It helps that a friend was a nurse there, so we didn't get kicked out, it was way after hours! When their second preemie came we were quite often asked to keep it down in Deb's room. When my elder was born we had a dozen or so, sitting in the waiting room for her birth. I can remember the hallway from the OR (she was C-section) to the recovery room was full of my family. We take having babies seriously.
And now it's been 21 and 18 years later. These girls are as beautiful inside as they are out. I keep hoping my girls grow up to be like them. One night, as I was teaching them both to knit, we were discussing how they get along as sisters. Then they let the cat out of the bag and said how they could stand there screaming at each other in a fight and then realize they couldn't remember why they were fighting. It was good to know they had their moments too. And it's been nice having someone I could ask about having 2 daughters, they are the same age difference as my two. Deb's girls are 10 days shy of 3 years apart and mine are 17 days shy of 3 years difference. Her advice has helped me through the years. And now her advice on teenagers will undoubtedly get my girls through.

You have already seen the shrug I made for the Elder birthday girl. And here's the latest FO, this one for the Younger BG. I will try to get a shot of each on the girls at their party on Sunday. I am so hoping they fit. I know the capelet will adapt to the Younger BG, it's a 2x4 rib, very stretchy. But the shrug is keeping me guessing. I know the back fits, since I made her close her eyes and turn around, so I could match it up to her. It's just those fronts and the short row shaping that has me wondering.
Last night at PYOP (pick your own project) at work I was presented a challenge. I will get to use the knowledge I learned from Lily Chin about darts in EB's next project. She is making a sweater from the Fall Knit Scene, she already made the gorgeous Central Park Hoodie (and did a better job than the designer I say). It's a plain St st body with striped sleeves. Perfect background for trying a new technique. So I will brush up on the measuring info to help her plot out the darts. This will be so much fun! Using what I have learned, and hopefully retaining more of it after that.
I wish for you a weekend full of fun and comfort. We will go see Elder's last BB game on Sat. I know she will be sad to see it end, but right now, I will be happy to not have to get out in freezing weather to take her to practice twice a week. And soon softball practice will start. And soccer for Younger. And she wants to play softball too. You do the math. 2 kids x 3 sports that overlap for a few months. Factor in the Hubster, who can't always make it home in time to run a child here or there. It equals a lot of car knitting for me!
Blessings: Surgeons with steady hands. A friend just had foot surgery yesterday. It's great to know she came through OK. Now to schedule some knitting visits while she is in rehab.
