Speeding ticket on the way up. Almost late to the conference. Blizzard conditions start Friday morning and don't let up all day. Phone call at 6:30 pm, from the girl, telling me she thinks she has broken her collar bone. Having broken her right one 8 years early, also in Indy, she recognizes the pain. She said she heard it snap. I told her to ice it, thinking it maybe really isn't broken, and call me back. Call back was less than 15 minutes later. So off I go, fighting the wind gusts and slippery roads to get her. She was close to a mec center, so we got in quick, fairly dead night when there's a blizzard, and got out quick. X-ray shows a very broken collar bone. They got her in a sling and off we go to buy some button front shirts to wear over the next two days and one to sleep in. Plus, get her drugs to help her make it through the rest of the weekend. Because she wanted to go BACK to her conference.
She was back at her hotel by 9:00. I washed her hair, got her cleaned up and dosed her with Vicodin. Arranged her bed, met her roomie, and left by 10:00. When I talked to her later she had been doing homework! Can I say how much I admire this child's ability to deal with this kind of thing. When it happened she was telling the others what to do to help her. No hysterics, just calm action. She made a sling with her hoodie and had them get her ice.
She just texted me she is getting ready for her next session. She said she slept well and is in little pain right now. Such a trooper. Now, to get her some grace! She broke it tripping over her own two feet. Two months of basketball, no major injury. Two days into a leadership conference, broken collar bone.
Today's Visa moment.....Mec Center visit, $60.00. Target Run for button shirts, $50.00. Vicodin prescription, $6.00. Moment you realize your first born is a competent young lady, Priceless.
The down side to the blizzard has been the lack of yarn shop hopping. I didn't bring the appropriate shoes for the snow I didn't expect to deal with. I should have bought some galoshes while at Target last night. We have plans to shop today, but not sure if that will happen. Lack of sleep the last two nights is wearing on me. The dryness of the weather, my cold, and worry, have stolen my slumber. Today's struggle will be keeping the dog from wanting out to play in the snow all day. He just wants to run. We opened the back door last night and several inches of snow fell in. The drifting snow has erased the curbs and many other things. But the road clearing in Indy is far superior to anything my home town does. At least the road home will be clear by Sunday.
Keep Elder in your thoughts and prayers. I know she will be OK, it's just hard to deal with life's little things when you have 1 arm immobilized. Her biggest lament so far? The toilet paper roll is on her left side in the hotel bathroom. Yep, that's the broken side.
